10k, short for ten thousand, plays off of the advertising adage “A picture is worth one thousand words.” At 10k Words Photography, the philosophy is that a picture can say so much more!
I’m Rachelle. Those who know me think I’m a bit photo-obsessed. They’re probably right. I’ve had a love affair with photography for most of my life.
I was trained in artistic photography at Seton Hall University and studied photojournalism at U.C. Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism under the mentorship of Ken Light and Mimi Chakarova. I received the school’s Susan Meiselas Award for Photojournalism in 2002.
That same year, I welcomed my firstborn into the world. And my whole life changed. I couldn’t believe how fast she was growing and changing. Pictures became even more important. I wanted to remember everything, and so I froze time with my camera. Yes, I was the mother at the park who forgot the diaper bag, but remembered the camera bag.
My training blends together into an environmental photographic style that creates portraits capturing the impromptu moments of life as well as the personalities of my subjects. My goal with every event and client session is to capture the special little nuances of each person I photograph.
I can’t wait to capture something special with you.
